Skimmer boxes & plumbing
The skimmer box is bolted to a shell that moves with the ground — so it's usually the first thing to crack, and one of the biggest causes of water loss.
Why skimmer boxes fail
The skimmer box is attached to the pool, and any movement in the ground pulls on it. Over time that movement cracks the box or the face plate, and the pool quietly loses water into the surrounding soil.
A cracked skimmer box can't be patched for long. The lasting fix is to cut the old box out, fit a new one, re-plumb what needs it, and make good the concrete and tiles around it.
What's involved
- 1. Expose
- The paving and concrete around the skimmer box are lifted and the box is exposed.
- 2. Cut out & replace
- The old box is cut away and a new one is fitted and sealed to the shell.
- 3. Re-plumb
- Cracked or corroded pipes behind the box are replaced while everything is open.
- 4. Make good
- Concrete is poured back, tiles and pavers are relaid, and the repair disappears.
