Renovations & cost

How much does a pool renovation cost?: Most fibreglass pool renovations cost between $15,000 and $20,000. Pricing varies with the size of the pool, the amount of osmosis present, and optional upgrades like new waterline tiles or a replacement light.
I've heard epoxy-painted pools are much cheaper. Why?: Epoxy coatings are around half the cost, but manufacturers typically rate them for only about five years. A full fibreglass renovation includes a new fibreglass membrane, filler coat and gel coat system — a much thicker, longer-lasting finish.
How long does a renovation take?: Most renovations take about two weeks, weather permitting. The work is done outdoors, so rain or unsuitable weather can delay the fibreglassing and coating.
What colours are available?: Standard colours are light blue, medium blue and dark blue. Specialty colours are available but usually cost more. We no longer offer fleck finishes, due to long-term warranty issues manufacturers have had with them.

My pool is leaking. Where is it likely to be?: The most common points are the hydrostatic valve in the bottom of the pool (it should be changed every 6 to 8 years but is often 20+ years old), the pool light, the skimmer box face plate, and — less often — the pipework.
What is osmosis?: Osmosis is moisture passing through the fibreglass surface and forming blisters beneath it, from coin-sized to dinner-plate sized depending on the pool's age. During a renovation each blister is ground out and drained before the whole shell is re-fibreglassed.
Can a pool pop out of the ground?: It's uncommon, but if a pool is emptied incorrectly, groundwater pressure can lift the shell. The hydrostatic valve must be managed correctly and, where needed, braces and weights are used. As a licensed and insured contractor we follow the correct procedures to minimise this risk.

What warranty do you provide?: By law, statutory warranties apply. MJ Pool Repairs also provides a 2-year workmanship warranty. It doesn't cover pre-existing structural issues, plumbing failures, ground movement or other circumstances outside our control.
Do you offer contracts?: Yes. We can provide a detailed written contract on request. Our contracts comply with NSW requirements and clearly set out the scope of works, payment stages, timeframes and warranty.
